The Challenge
With rising burnout rates among professionals, there was a need for a proactive solution to help individuals manage stress and prevent burnout. The goal was to design an app that not only tracks wellness habits but also engages and motivates users towards better self-care.

#TheKickoff
The Daily Health Conference didn’t just want another app; they wanted a revolution in personal wellness that starts right from your smartphone. The mission was clear: create an app that not only tracks wellness habits but also proactively engages and motivates its users.
Why Burnout? The Numbers Tell the Story
In our brainstorming session, we picked our focus based on data. Here’s what we found: 77% of younger workers are feeling burnout at their current jobs, and 91% have faced its symptoms. With stats like these, focusing on burnout was an obvious choice. Our response? We created Outmind to help transform daily stress into wellness, aiming to change these stats for the better.

The Foundation: Built on Research and Real Feedback
We kicked off with a Lean Survey Canvas and extensive secondary research to get our bearings in the vast ocean of wellness technology. Through competitor analysis, we identified gaps where existing apps were missing the mark — like overly complicated trackers that increased stress rather than easing it.
Further, the competitor analysis revealed that while apps like “Calm” provide a soothing user experience, others cater to a more playful interaction. We aimed for a balance — creating a calming yet engaging experience that could serve as a daily burnout preventative, directly addressing the leading causes of burnout, such as overwhelming workloads and lack of support.

Real Insights from Real People: Our User-Centered Approach
Our empathy maps and user personas brought us face-to-face with the real heroes of our story: the users. People like “Alex,” whose daily grind had left him more familiar with burnout than his own well-being. Our app was designed to offer Alex and others gentle reminders for self-care tasks, from hydration to taking short mental breaks.

Ideation to Realization: Designing with Heart
Post-its became our best friends during the ideation phase (online of course). We sketched out features that could genuinely make a difference, like an emotional journal and personalized reminders based on user mood and energy levels. Feedback from initial testing helped us refine these ideas, turning them into tools that could genuinely uplift our users.

A Look Inside: Simple, Friendly, and Effective Design
Our design ethos was clear from the start: keep it simple, make it friendly. The style guide was developed with soothing colors and a clean interface to reduce visual clutter and enhance user experience. Our high-fidelity prototype brought this vision to life, showing a dashboard that was as calming as it was useful.

Learning and Looking Forward: A Continuous Journey
Every step, from designing wireframes to conducting user tests, has taught us valuable lessons about creating life-changing digital tools. We’re not just building an app; we’re crafting a reliable companion to help lighten our users’ daily load. A moment that really hit home was when someone approached me after taking our survey, realizing they were experiencing burnout. This confirmed the real impact our work can have and this is something that will stay in my heart for life.
