Hello, fellow tech enthusiasts and wellness seekers! Let me take you on a journey through my final project at Ironhack’s UX/UI Bootcamp.

#TheKickoff

Our mission? To elevate Zen by Deezer, a wellness app, by crafting a smooth, user-friendly web experience that complements its mobile version. Here’s a look at what we did, what we discovered, and how we delivered a better user experience.

The Need for Cross-Device Usability

In our initial research phase, we discovered an interesting trend: while 70% of wellness streamers prefer using their smartphones for streaming because of practicality, another 60% appreciate the larger screen and easier navigation that computers offer. This showed us that users want flexibility — they want to stream wellness content on both their phones and their computers, depending on their situation.

Examining the Competition

We took a close look at popular wellness apps like Calm and Headspace. Although these apps are well-regarded, their web platforms have notable shortcomings. Users frequently reported issues with cross-device consistency, limited content personalization, and confusing navigation. These insights were crucial in shaping our design approach for Zen by Deezer, ensuring we focused on solving these problems.

User Feedback and Iteration

We knew that listening to our users was essential, so we conducted interviews to gather feedback. Users expressed frustration with the current platforms being disorganized and the time wasted searching for suitable content. This feedback guided our iterations, as we tested and refined our designs to align better with user needs and habits.

Introducing Olivia: Our User Persona

Meet Olivia, our user persona. She’s always on the go, balancing a demanding job and family responsibilities. Despite her busy schedule, she’s passionate about wellness and strives to integrate it into her daily routine. However, she is always struggling to do her healthy rituals.

Olivia is a 35-year-old marketing professional from Lille, France.

She needs to incorporate wellness into her daily routine, use top-quality content, and reduce distractions to improve focus during her sessions, which requires a flexible platform that adapts to different types of wellness rituals, offers timely and straightforward access to customized content, and provides consistency across devices.

Designing a Better Experience

With Olivia’s help and the insights from the interviews, we began designing mid-fidelity wireframes, concentrating on key features to improve user experience:

Our goal was to create a layout that felt intuitive and easy to use, regardless of whether you were on a smartphone or a computer.

Overcoming Challenges

One of the significant challenges we faced was maintaining Zen by Deezer’s unique brand identity while adhering to web standards and user expectations. Our solution was to strike a balance: we kept the app’s aesthetic and functionality intact while introducing improvements tailored for web usage.

The Final Prototype and Future Steps

This project was a journey of learning and creativity. It highlighted the importance of user-centric design in creating digital solutions that genuinely resonate with users. By bridging the gap between mobile and web experiences, Zen by Deezer is set to offer an unparalleled wellness streaming service, catering to users’ needs wherever they are.

Our project underscores the potential of thoughtful design and user feedback in shaping the future of wellness apps. We look forward to seeing Zen by Deezer thrive and continue to make a positive impact on its users’ lives.

Stay zen!
